Like journal entries, these small oil paintings on panel are memories of my travels; inspired by time spent in the landscape - camping, running, kayaking, hiking & cycling - exploring the mountains of South Carolina & North Carolina. Each depicts a particular time & place, but they are all informed by many experiences.
The Upstate of South Carolina & Western North Carolina, especially, were devastated by Hurricane Helene in 2024. These paintings are memories of the times my fiancé, Josh and our pup, Emmy dog, who is no longer with us, spent exploring the woods around us. Now, as we are able to return, I am witnessing how these landscapes have been forever changed. As I process the loss, I am beginning to work from the memories of what the landscapes have become through paint.
