Like journal entries, these small oil paintings on panel are memories of my travels; inspired by time spent in the landscape - camping, running, kayaking, hiking & cycling - exploring the mountains of South Carolina & North Carolina. Each depicts a particular time & place, but they are all informed by many experiences.
The Upstate of South Carolina & Western North Carolina, especially, were devastated by Hurricane Helene. These paintings are memories of the times my fiancé, Josh and our pup, Emmy dog, who is no longer with us, spent exploring the woods around us. Thinking about the roads & trails we have traveled, my heart breaks for all that has been lost. When we are able to return, I know these landscapes have been forever changed.
Traveling home to SC from Philadelphia, an overnight camp in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest. A crisp morning walk on the road beside camp, the light on a spider's web caught my eye. Watched it, taking in the warmth of the sun until the light was right and the web was aglow.
