Like journal entries, these small oil paintings on panel are memories of my travels; inspired by time spent in the landscape - camping, running, kayaking, hiking & cycling - exploring the mountains of South Carolina & North Carolina. Each depicts a particular time & place, but they are all informed by many experiences.
The Upstate of South Carolina & Western North Carolina, especially, were devastated by Hurricane Helene. These paintings are memories of the times my fiancé, Josh and our pup, Emmy dog, who is no longer with us, spent exploring the woods around us. Thinking about the roads & trails we have traveled, my heart breaks for all that has been lost. When we are able to return, I know these landscapes have been forever changed.
Before a road trip north, watching the sun rise over Linville Gorge. Feeling the sun's warmth on a cool morning, capturing in memory the colors of fall, knowing my next trip here the leaves will be gone.
