Like journal entries, these small oil paintings on panel are memories of my travels; inspired by time spent in the landscape - camping, running, kayaking, hiking & cycling - exploring the mountains of South Carolina & North Carolina. Each depicts a particular time & place, but they are all informed by many experiences.
The Upstate of South Carolina & Western North Carolina, especially, were devastated by Hurricane Helene. These paintings are memories of the times my fiancé, Josh and our pup, Emmy dog, who is no longer with us, spent exploring the woods around us. Thinking about the roads & trails we have traveled, my heart breaks for all that has been lost. When we are able to return, I know these landscapes have been forever changed.
Thinking about the time spent along the Blue Ridge Parkway, wondering what it will look like when we can return. The inspiration for this painting is from a drive this past June exploring new roads on and around the Parkway. Since most of the Parkway in NC is closed, I’ve been reflecting on my memories, this painting is a result.
